Nemeth Laszlo project

Two among Nemeth Laszlo's plays deal with personal and institutional aspects of scientific innovation. In "Galilei", a scientist's challenging of the geocentric world-view leads to his persecution by 17th century inquisitorial authorities. In "Bolyai", the 19th century discovery of alternative theories of space meets with a mix of professional envy, lack of interest, and generally unhelpful attitudes, which become essential ingredients of a father-and-son conflict. This latter drama was adapted for television by Adam Otto, based on Nemeth Laszlo's original text, in Hungarian ("A ket Bolyai"). We are proposing to produce subtitled versions in other languages.

A 15-minute selection of scenes from Adam Otto's 90-minute Hungarian television drama has been already prepared with Finnish subtitles. It is available for critical viewing and comment, upon individual request sent to me at sf@tut.fi (Translations by Kaisa Lehtonen and Laszlo Major.)
