Background

I got my M.Sc. (Tech.) and D.Sc. (Tech.) degrees in electrical engineering from Helsinki University of Technology in 2008 and Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering in 2012, respectively. I'm currently working as a tenure track Associate Professor at the Unit of Electrical Engineering at Tampere University, heading the Research Group of Electromechanics. My research interests deal with both modeling and measurement of electrical machines, power losses, and magnetomechanical effects in soft magnetic materials.

During my doctoral thesis, I developed dynamic iron loss models for electrical steel sheets and coupled these to finite element simulation tools for electrical machines. The iron losses were modeled by coupling the lamination eddy currents to hysteresis and excess loss models in the lamination thickness. I also built a calorimetric system for accurate measurement of the additional inverter losses in a 150 kVA wound field synchronous machine.

Currently, our group works with power losses in magnetic components used in power electronic energy conversion as well as electromagnetic and magnetostrictive energy harvesting techniques.
